WOMESA Madagascar, one of a national chapter,was officially launched on October 7, 2016 with the support of the Ministry of Transport and Meteorology, the Agence Portuaire Maritime et Fluviale (APMF) and private sector companies working in the maritime sector.
Initiated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) as part of its program on the integration of women in the maritime sector and launched in December 2007 in Mombasa Kenya, WOMESA or Women in the Maritime Sector in Eastern and Southern Africa is a non-profit association, bringing together women executives in the maritime sector of Eastern and Southern Africa, whose main objective is the empowerment of women and the promotion of gender equality in the maritime sector.
“WOMESA”, is a young association made up of 50 founder members, drawn from countries within East and Southern African region namely:
Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Comoros, DRC, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Sudan,
Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
